On June 5 the NLWA, the NH DES, and Lycott Environmental, Inc. treated the milfoil in the lake with an herbicide called 2,4-D. Water use restrictions were put in place, and a testing protocol was established to monitor the 2,4-D concentration levels. The swimming restriction was lifted on June 13. Chemical analysis of Northwood Lake indicates that the level of 2,4-D is now within acceptable limits and the water may now be used for irrigation and drinking, as of July 9, 2008.
