On Thursday, June 5, the lake was treated for milfoil in a few specific areas. A permit to treat the milfoil was issued to Lycott Environmental, Inc. of Southbridge, Massachussetts; Lycott is the vendor chosen by the NH Department of Environmental Services to apply the treatment. Certain water use restrictions are currently in effect, per the NH Department of Agriculture Special Permit SP-098. Water use restrictions are as follows; treated water shall not be used for drinking until the concentration of 2,4-D (the herbicide used to treat the milfoil) falls below 70 parts per billion. Treated water shall not be used to irrigate plants (grass, gardens, crops, etc.) until the concentration of 2,4-D falls below 100 parts per billion. Water samples will be taken by Lycott Environmental on the fifteenth and thirtieth days following the treatment. These drinking and irrigation restrictions apply within 1200 feet of the treatment areas, and include wells and other points within fifty feet of the shoreline. Swimming within 200 feet of the treatment areas is prohibited for seven days. A map showing the treatment areas can be downloaded by clicking here . Photos of the treatment are in the 2008 Photo Gallery .
