The 2007 Annual Meeting was held yesterday at the Northwood Town Beach. The weather was beautiful for our first waterfront annual meeting. The members present agreed that meeting at the beach was a great experience and that we should do it again. Jody Connor, Director of the NHDES Limnology Center, was our guest speaker. Thanks to Jody for an extremely informative discussion that included the development of our Five Year Management Plan. Thanks also go to Northwood Health Officer Don Arsenault for attending the meeting.
Mr. Connor brought some informative materials to the meeting, including the recently published A Field Guide to Common Riparian Plants of New Hampshire . The Appendix of this publication has a listing of native plants that can be used in the protected shoreland (the area of land that exists between the reference line of a waterbody and 250 feet from the reference line). Mr. Connor also left a copy of a New Hampshire Estuaries Project field guide designed to help people distinguish between pollution incidents and simply odd natural phenomenon. The guide can be downloaded by clicking here . Finally, Mr. Arsenault distributed copies of the DES report about last year's E. coli issue at the public beach. We should have a PDF version of the report available for download soon. |
