Weekly Photo (Posted on 12/21/02)
The lake looks a little desolate in this photo. In fact it has been a nice day, with the sun shining and not too cold. There were a few snow flurries this afternoon, but nothing stuck to the ground. Could a white Christmas be on the way?
Weekly Photo (Posted on 12/07/02)
It has been very cold recently, this morning the thermometer said 5º F. It is a sunny day though, and the geese are enjoying the last bit of unfrozen lake.
More Photos from Laurie Plumley (Posted on 11/22/02)
Laurie Plumley sent over some more great sunrises for us to see. Thanks again Laurie!
Weekly Photo (Posted on 11/22/02)
This is what the lake looked like last week. You can see the lake is down, and there is snow on the ground. It warmed up a little bit this past week, but it seems that winter is really here.
Weekly Photo (Posted on 11/03/02)
It is chilly today. My thermometer says 40°F now, but it was 20°F this morning. The sun is shining though, so we'll call this another nice day at the lake, sweater required.
Drought Montior Results (Posted on 11/03/02)
A quick look at the recently moved Drought Monitor web site indicates that New Hampshire is experiencing "near normal" conditions at the moment.
Another Northwood Lake Sunrise (Posted on 10/24/02)
Northwood resident Laurie Plumley took this great photo on Monday morning. Thanks for the contribution Laurie. Keep them coming!
First Snow (Posted on 10/23/02)
We had the first snow of the season today. About 3 inches fell, and it had melted off by the afternoon. This little announcement is for those of you who currently reside in parts of the country that don't have snow, so you can chuckle to yourself as you sit there in your short sleeves.
House Fire at Northwood Lake (Posted on 10/21/02)
The news is not always good here on the lake. On Saturday a cottage caught fire and burned. Thankfully the people inside got out safely. An article on Foster's web site has more detail. Click here to read the article.

Why not check your smoke alarms RIGHT NOW? Are the batteries still good? Click here to read more on smoke alarms and why you should have some.
Weekly Photo (Posted on 10/19/02)
Autumn is in full swing here at the lake. We had a nice sunny day yesterday, but it was a little on the windy side. The leaves were falling...

Gathering Leaves
by Robert Frost

Spades take up leaves
No better than spoons,
And bags full of leaves
Are light as balloons.

I make a great noise
Of rustling all day
Like rabbit and deer
Running away.

But the mountains I raise
Elude my embrace,
Flowing over my arms
And into my face.

I may load and unload
Again and again
Till I fill the whole shed,
And what have I then?

Next to nothing for weight,
And since they grew duller
From contact with earth,
Next to nothing for color.

Next to nothing for use.
But a crop is a crop,
And who's to say where
The harvest shall stop?
Northwood Lake Day 2002 Photos (Posted on 10/12/02)
Finally getting around to posting photos from Northwood Lake Day 2002. These were taken by NLWA Director Gwen Desmarais. Click here for the slideshow.
Weekly Photo (Posted on 10/12/02)
Rainy, chilly, overcast, and gray. That's it in a nutshell for today, here at the lake. A good reminder to make sure there's enough firewood set aside for winter.
Winter on the Way? (Posted on 10/09/02)
This morning there was frost on my windshield. Summer is over. The leaves have started to turn, and we haven't heard the loons for a while. Instead we watched a cormorant on the lake. You can see it flying just above the water in this photo.
Evening Cruise on the Lake (Posted on 09/22/02)
Last evening was a fantastic night for a cruise on the lake. No bugs, a light breeze, cool temperatures, calm water, what more could one ask for? Here is a very grainy photo for those who weren't out on the lake last night.
DES Lake Drawdown Schedule (Posted on 09/20/02)
DES has announced the lake drawdown schedule for 2002. Northwood Lake is scheduled for a 6' drawdown starting on October 14. The press release is here.
